LAND SKY WATER

I work in series, studying how a single landscape changes—weather, seasons, colors, and geology—as time and nature reshape it. Returning to the same place or subject helps me understand my visual and psychological experience of it. Perhaps, I can transmit that experience through paint.

SKY

Spurs Ranch Road Series

An ongoing sky-dominant series started in 2018. The work is based on the ever changing view from my patio, becoming my longest sustained investigation of nature.

Water

Texas Coast

I am drawn to water because I spent my childhood in and around lakes, including the Great Lakes of Michigan, near my home. These paintings of the Texas coast explore time, sound, and atmosphere through water’s rhythms, shifting color and light.

Land

WEST TEXAS

Earth's changing textures, color, pattern, the power of water to change the landscape in an instant or over deep time are visual and powerful concepts to me. This work is from West Texas near Alpine and the Davis Mountains. Every visit inspires me more and I want to stay longer.

Intimate Scale Art

During the pandemic I began a series of 4" x 4" mini paintings that I first titled Spurs Ranch Road . I used jeweler's glasses to work small. The series was shown at Felder Gallery in San Antonio in a long line on a white wall. I still make small works. To see the detail one must get very close. In line with my other work, they invite you to slow down, notice the marks and light, and be moved by moments from nature.

Smaller works are a great way to start collecting original art.

Works in this gallery are various locations and sizes below 64 square in.
