Thinking Local

My husband and I are a little guilty of thinking we need to get out of the San Antonio area to feel we are “in nature.” Last Tuesday we explored Government Canyon State Natural Area less than 30 minutes from my house. It was a world away from the growth neighborhoods that stopped at the entrance. Apart from some occasional airplanes above, all I could here were birds and rustling in the woods. I was on the hunt for native plants, my husband was out for exercise and looking for wild hogs! Such a difference in us! We saw a lot of creatures, I’m sure nothing like 100 years ago which is where my mind goes. I did capture at least 20 different plants and flowers who I hope will find their way into a new botanical series.
